The Town of Cicero Receiver of Taxes is an elected position with a four-year term.

The Receiver of Taxes is responsible for processing all of the property taxes collected by the government of the Town of Cicero; the Village of North Syracuse (within the Town of Cicero); school taxes for the North Syracuse Central Schools; and school taxes (on properties within the Town of Cicero) for the Chittenango Central Schools, Central Square Central Schools and East Syracuse-Minoa Central Schools.

TAX COLLECTIONS:

  • Town & County Taxes:  The bills are mailed out around January 1st and are due without penalty January 31st
  •  
  • North Syracuse Village Taxes: The bills are mailed out around June 1st and are due without penalty July 1st.
  •  
  • School Taxes: The bills are mailed out around September 1st and are due without penalty around October 1st.

PARTIAL PAYMENT INFORMATION:

Partial payments are accepted if there are no delinquent taxes due. The first payment must be made on or before the no-penalty due date. The partial payment can be in any amount for town and county, village, and school tax bills.  Penalties do apply on any payment(s) made after the penalty-free period ends.  Payments made after the penalty-free period will include penalty only on the remaining balance due.  The number of partial payments varies depending upon the type of tax:

          Town and County-  up to 4 payments

          Village-  up to 3 payments

          School-  up to 3 payments 

**For school taxes the first partial payment may be any amount and must be made during the penalty-free period

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/REMINDERS: 

New York State Real Property Tax Law

Per New York State Law, it is the responsibility of the Property Owner to know when taxes are due and payable.  If you are not escrowed with a Bank or Mortgage Company you should receive a tax bill the first week of the month the bill is due. If you do not receive a bill, please contact the Tax Office as soon as possible.

Deeds/New Property Owners

Please be aware that there is a time lapse of 2-3 months from the date a deed is filed with the County until the information is recorded with the Assessor’s Office. Therefore, if you buy or sell property in the Town of Cicero please call and advise the Tax Office to help us direct tax bills to the proper location.

If Your Taxes Are Escrowed

Your Bank or Mortgage Company will receive a printout of the taxes on properties for which they hold escrow accounts. Receipts for escrowed property are now mailed directly to the homeowner approximately 3 weeks from the date they are paid by the Bank or Mortgage Company.

If Your Taxes Are Not Escrowed 

The Tax Bill will be mailed to the ***OWNER ON OUR RECORDS*** (see DEEDS above) at the time the bills are printed by the County.

Address Updates 

If at any time you change your current mailing address please notify the Assessor’s Office immediately so that the tax bills will be delivered properly.

Exemptions

As a property owner, you may be eligible for various exemptions that will reduce the amount of taxes that are levied against your property. Information on exemption programs is available through the Assessor’s Office.
