The Planning Board is a separate entity within Town Government, advising the Town Board yet also free to make decisions for proposed projects. Members are appointed by the Town Board.
The Planning Board seeks to efficiently and effectively promote new businesses within the Town of Cicero while also ensuring that new business structures complement the local area.
Persons contemplating opening a new business in the Town of Cicero should first visit the Planning and Zoning Office and submit the Site Plan Application Form. The applicant will then be scheduled to attend an Agenda Workshop (normally on a Wednesday at 9:00 AM.)
There is no fee for the Agenda Workshop; this is an informal session to receive advice and counsel on the proposed business venture. The various licenses and fees are explained as well as other related issues. Once the applicant decides to go forward, the applicable filing fee must be paid and the proposed business venture is then scheduled for an upcoming Planning Board meeting (these meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 PM.) Depending on complexity, the proposed venture may require participating in several Planning Board meetings.
Persons concerned about a proposed business venture or who are contemplating one of their own are encouraged to contact the chair directly. Resident feedback is an important aspect in considering proposed businesses and such input is welcome. You may contact the chair, Robert Smith, at email@example.com or via phone at 315.415.1574.
