Overview of Highway Garage Issues

The Town of Cicero will be holding two informational meetings/open houses at the Town of Cicero highway garage on Saturday, February 4th, at 10:00 AM, and also on Wednesday, February 15th, at 6:30 PM. These meetings will give residents the opportunity to view the state of the highway garage. There will also be a public workshop on Monday, January 30th, 5:00 PM at Town Hall.

The time has come where the Highway Garage issue must be addressed. The existing 52 year old building has outlived its useful life. It is estimated that the cost to repair the roof and address the structural issues would be well over $700,000 dollars alone. However the existing facility would still not accommodate all of our equipment, the maintenance of that equipment, or be one that meets ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) or OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations. We are obligated as a community to ensure that our employees have a safe and clean environment in which to work.

The Project consists of a proposed 65,000 square foot main Highway Garage replacing the existing building; a new Salt Barn, and Cold Storage Structures. The Project is anticipated to improve the delivery of services by the Highway Department by providing needed space for storage of equipment and materials, maintenance activities, and a safe work environment. New facilities are anticipated to increase energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

I encourage you to attend and offer questions/comments. Written questions/comments may also be submitted by mail to the Town Clerk or by e-mail to the Town Clerk at clerk@ciceronewyork.net.

  Thank you.
